Testing the first version
test 1 on may 17th
recording of the person who is using the app
feedback and notes from the test:
- route page needs to be more clear, too much information
- not clear on what to do when
- maybe create better categories
- create a better overview
- discount page needs to more clear, when can you use this, where can you use this?
feedback and notes from the test:
- enter the code could be more clear, not so much text. should be really
intuitive.
- home page/route page to overwhelming
- not sure on how to start the route, start with a step 1 etc.
- nice design
- create a more clear overview
- its not clear when to use the given option
- maybe create a flowchart to get a clear view on what should lead to where
test plan proposal
What are you going to test? (tasks/questions)
The first rough sketch of the app where all the pages are linked and the first base of the navigation will be set. It's more about the structure of the app. Is it clear for the user what steps they can make and take.

What prototype are you making?
A wireframe sketch in Adobe XD with maybe some design elements.

Where will you test?
The first tests will be at home. When the app is user friendly enough I also want to test it outside

Who will be your testers?
3 friends that are also clubbers and interested in art and design

How will you document your test?
I will screen record the iPhone where the app will be tested on. i will take notes during the tests and maybe setting up a camera to also record the person who is testing but not sure
feedback by arjen
- Route & experience more important than the app

- think about a different interaction for the app, AR is maybe not the right one since it's during the
night and maybe people are a bit drunk and dont really get what they need to do..

- maybe think of something where you can control the light of the light sculptures with the app.

- nice addition by Insan: do something with music, maybe a silent disco or music that change at
different art pieces
test 2 on may 21th
testing the route with version 2 of the app with 1 user
notes:
- sidenotes navigation needs to be bigger, user didnt see them in the first place. Maybe place them at the bottom and not at the top
- love spreads > Jongeleur instructions not clear
- jongeleur > el trotamundos not clear
- alexia > alles van waarde is weerloos turn left to stay on blaak wrong and turn right to stay on blaak also wrong, not necessary
- Rotte-dam > Taxat is missing
- Maybe instead of take a break, replace it with need a break?
- User finds it interesting and nice that there is more info about the visited art pieces
- dancing on the ceiling > louis monument instructions not clear
- zonder titel grafische wand go into the station
- zonder titel art piece is located in a flat so not able to visit
- cross the street and continu on the mauritsstraat
test 3 on may 22th
questions and app testing with 2 users

- Would you do an art route that functions as a kind of club night. A tour where different aspects of a club night come together.

yes but make it clear that it is also about the music, that it contains light sculptures and that kind of stuff. maybe a club night is a bit vague.

- How much would you pay for a tour that you can take on an app that takes you past street art and light sculptures and chill out spots? Where you can connect with a silent disco in some places and where you get personal discounts at various fast food spots and night shops?

20 eu, but maybe for the first event a little less because in this way you can easily introduce people to the event.

- How long would you like this tour to last?

i would say 1,5hr to 2hr for the walk but you can say that the 'event' is from 11-4 in the night. so people have more time for all the activities during the night.

- Would you like to access multiple routes on the app? Or, for example, 1 per weekend or 1 route in a while is enough.

maybe same route with different starting points so you kind of spread the users at different points. But doing it once in a while would be good one.

-- would you use the street art edit function?
Hmmm i don't think so, i have also instagram or just my own phone to make picture with so not sure why i would use this function in the app.

- would you make use of the control the light function?
Yes, i like to idea to control the lights and to also see the art piece change so it is more interactive and not so super static to just look at an art piece.

- would you make use of the silent disco?
yeah i really miss dancing to music with some of my friends. And this also makes the tour more interesting and also very attractive for clubbers.
- Would you do an art route that functions as a kind of club night. A tour where different aspects of a club night come together.

Yes but make it super clear what this art tour contains. maybe bring it as a night out instead of a club night.

- How much would you pay for a tour that you can take on an app that takes you past street art and light sculptures and chill out spots? Where you can connect with a silent disco in some places and where you get personal discounts at various fast food spots and night shops?

25 eu but also maybe for the first time a little less.

- How long would you like this tour to last?

1,5hr - 2hr. but thats the max. i think if it will be more people think it's too much.

- Would you like to access multiple routes on the app? Or, for example, 1 per weekend or 1 route in a while is enough.

I think doing this once in a while would be fun, just like a Museumnacht. that is also once a year. But doing it too much wouldnt be such a good thing.

- would you use the street art edit function?
If the edit function would have some cool functions, maybe, but i dont think so.

- would you make use of the control the light function?
Yeah definitely, i think this is a very cool and strong function in your app. it really interacts with the user and also with the surroundings. would be really fun if this would be in real life.

- would you make use of the silent disco?
Yes for sure. Music is an important part of clubbing so i'm happy to hear that this is a function for the tour. Makes the tour so much more fun.

- not to much text at the info tabs, because it's during the night you are maybe a bit drunk and dont want to read that much text.

- The colors are quite bright, maybe add a little bit of dark in it or some gradients so the design wouldn't be that bright.

- maybe do a collect x amount of art pieces to get something free, you make it this way a bit more interactive. this could be instead of the photo edit function.

- watch out with the navigation, dont make it to compicated, maybe it's better to do a gps navigation. that is much more clear.

questions:
- Would you do an art route that functions as a kind of club night?
Yes, it would be fun to do this with a couple of friends. Would be fun to do something rather than stay inside

- What do you think of the street art edit function?
Yes i like the idea of take a picture with the app and edit and play around with some colors and overlay. I really like to make and create photos and also be able to make something my own. As long if it not will be those instagram filters

- what do you think of the control of the light function?
Super fun! But maybe think of a timeslot think for it because otherwise people will make use of it way to long.

- would you go to the silent disco?
Of course, i think this is a nice addition to the tour. music is a really important part during a night out. so their should definitely be music

- is the navigation clear of the app?
not really, it is not really clear on what to do, how the tour will be.

- you got a clear overview of your options?
i see some options but it is a bit overwhelming and not sure on when these options will be usefull.
- are the steps that you can make clear?
not really
- do you get enough informed?
the information at the begin is very usefull, but it's not clear on when can i use what

- are there things that you miss?
a direction navigation for the tour.

- do you have any additions?
maybe do a collect some art pieces for free beer
Final version app testing with 2 users
test 4 on may 27th
feedback and notes from the test:

- Buttons at collected art piece screen maybe switch them? I want to continu with the tour and not to see my collection because that is something i can also check if im at the navigation screen

- Would be nice to have pinpoints in the overview map to show where you are.

- Collection icon is recognizable and easy to find

- If you have all the art pieces collected, still show all the photos in your collection, it's nice to see all the photo's that you made.
feedback and notes from the test:

- titles of the art pieces also in the white squares in the collection

- collection icon also on the art piece information page.
TESTING
questions:
- Would you do an art route that functions as a kind of club night?
night out with friends are always fun, and i really like art so the combination of those two things and if the tour will be a bit interactive it could be fun

- What do you think of the street art edit function?
Yes as long if it not will be super generic filters. because that is something i can also do with other apps etc.

- what do you think of the control of the light function?
yes sounds amazing, im really into A/V so playing with a bunch of lights could be fun.

- would you go to the silent disco?
yes music should be definitely be their. and thinking about the people that live in the surroundings of the art pieces, i think a silent disco is the best suitable for that.

- is the navigation clear of the app?
no it is not clear. maybe start with a small introduction and go step by step.

- you got a clear overview of your options?
at the 'home' page i feel a bit overwhelmed and not so sure on what i should do with all the functions.

- are the steps that you can make clear?
for me it is not so clear

- do you get enough informed?
the information at the begin is very usefull, but it's not clear on when can i use what

- are there things that you miss?
a direction navigation for the tour. maybe a overview on what kind of stops there are.

- do you have any additions?
maybe create a flowchart for yourself so you understand better what should lead to where.

CONCLUSION
If you see a black line like this on your way scrolling down,
there will be a conclusion about the testing.
Doing the first test in such an early stage of the design was very fruitful. I didn't had a lot of pages and also not that much design decision. I already noticed that some things were lacking and that the user missed a lot of functions.

what i need to work on is:

- A more simple overview of the route that the user is going to take

- a more clear step by step navigation so the user knows what to do when

- creating a page for each art piece so it much more clear for the user what art piece they are visiting

- the interaction that are for 1 specific art piece needs to be on the page of that specific art piece, because otherwise it will be too overwhelming for the user and they dont know what to do when.

- creating a flowchart for myself so i know what will lead to where

- maybe if the interactions dont work out in a way think of a collect art piece game. (i already heard from 2 people that this could be a fun feature)
Testing the app with the navigation in real life was very usefull. I noticed that the step by step navigation wasn't that clear sometimes so we needed to look up some directions. This is something I need to work on. The sidenotes of how long you need to walk and on which sight the destination is wasn't clear for the user and the user didn't noticed it. It was also very usefull to do the tour in real life because some art pieces couldnt be seen or couldnt be visited.. One art piece was located in a apartment building and could only be visited by the residents. which i think is weird because it should be in a public space.

Overall the route was actually perfect. We didn't think it was too long, because you also have these chill out spots on the way and the night shops where you can get some refreshments.

But overall was the step by step navigation a good function. also that when you have arrived and you can click on a button that will lead you to the information page of the art piece is a nice function. The user also founds it very interesting to read a little bit about the art piece. just to get a bit of background information on what it is and who it made.

what i need to work on:

- make the step by step navigation better, because some steps are not right.

- the navigation sidenote information needs to be more clear and a bit bigger so the user notice it.
The third test was mostly some practical questions about the event and the tour. I asked them if they would go to this event, how many editions would be interesting for the event, how long they want to walk, how much they would pay for something like this and if they would make use of the interaction functions.

Conclusion about it:

- Testers said i could ask 25 euro for the event, but for a first time around 15 euro would be more than enough. i think 25 is a bit too high, especially if you think of that most clubbers from 18-30 are students and don't have that much money. so the price will be 15 euro

- In my communication about the event i need to be clear on what the event contains. Maybe saying that it is a club night is not the best way to communicate about the event.

- The tour that i already made and tested is good, because it was between 1,5-2hr and the testers also mentioned that this is more than enough.

- In my communication about the event i can say that the event is 1 weekend at friday and saturday from 11-4 just like a regular club night. So it would be like a sort of Museumnacht event.

- The control the light and Silent Disco are nice functions and interactions for the user, but maybe think of something else for the street art pieces. I already mentioned above in the first testing round i could do something with collecting the art pieces as it would be a game. So this is something i need to think of.

- the information about the art pieces can be a little less, because the tester mentioned that the user would'nt read that much text during the tour. Too much text could be a bit boring.

- design could be a bit less bright and more in "dark mode".

CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
For this test I created a new version of the app. The user lands on an information page with some information on how to use the app. than you will have a route overview (which i still need to make more simple). than they will start the tour and will have a gps navigation map and a step by step navigation at the top. so the user knows which steps they need to make when and isn't it super overwhelming like in the first app.

when they followed the navigation and they arrived at the art piece they can click on 'arrived? click here!' and that will lead them to the specific landing page of the art piece, where they will find a picture so they can recognize it, some short information about the art piece and the specific interaction for that art piece. when they done they can click on go to next destination and they will go to the next gps navigation map.

I didn't include the interaction in this version of the app because i made this version for testing the navigation and the route.
The feedback of Arjen let me think again about the interactions that are included in the app. I never worked with AR and it is indeed maybe to complicated for my users to work with. I like the idea of controling the lights that are included in the tour. I will think of something like that, that i can use in my app.

but i still want to do something with the street art so i also need to think of an interaction for that part.

I will also start creating the route for the tour so i can test the route and see if this will work out.
ABOUT THE APP:
ABOUT THE APP:
The fourth test was the last test with the final concept and version of the app. The reactions and results were great. The testers said they really liked the concept and also the addition of the collect the art piece game was something they really liked. They gave me some insights on how to improve the user flow which is very usefull. Collection icon is also easy to find in the right top. I was a little afraid that it wouldn't be recognized and noticed by the user.

things i need to work on:

- I have to switch the two buttons that are on the collect the art piece page to make to flow a bit smoother. This was something that the tester said to me and was a bit annoying for the user flow.

- I need to put pinpoints on the overview map to show where you are at that moment.

- Right now, If you collected all the art pieces than they’ve disappear and the voucher is shown on the collection page. But from the feedback i noticed that it still would be nice to show all the photo's and just create a button on the top of the collection page where you can find your voucher.

- i need to add titles in the white squares of the not yet collected art pieces.

- i need to put the collection icon also in the art piece information page.
