THE FINAL LOGO
In class we experimented with
the usability of typography, I
started out sketching the logo
on paper and then collaborated
with Noah, who was working digitally. I liked the font he told me to use (Eurostile Extd)
so I kept it throughout the
design of the app
I wanted to give the app a trippy, pixelated style and
while experimenting with animation in Photoshop I created the logo that is made up from the letter N and L,
meaning "Night Light" and "Light Night"
map which the User can navigate and find "Night Light" artworks
throughout the city
scan screen which opens when the User is located near one
of the selected "Night Lights"
control screen where the User
gets the possibility to control
the "Night Light" for a certain
amount of time
Through the collective research I did with Noah and Quan, I became very interested in finding a link
between the Usergroup (creative clubbers) and the public artworks in Rotterdam that are connected by (LED) lights

I decided on designing an app where I create a
substitute activity for the clubbers who can't go
clubbing because of covid, and where the User gets the full control over what they want to see and create from these lights coming from artworks that are spread throughout the city and are placed at many central locations

Meghans feedback:

- Maybe add a "Find your friends" option on the map to give a social aspect to it
- Consider adding lights to artworks that don't have them yet (like a strobe function)
- Think of more exciting names for the "toggle" functions on the control screen
Arjens feedback:

- Create an option for the User to upload their creation for other Users
- Consider more creative functions where the User has more freedom and creativity
- Think about the functionality of altering lights that are coming from artworks - preferably use only artworks created later than 2000
Users feedback:

- "Find your friends option", being able to find them on the map
- Add info about the "night lights" on the map, so we know what we're looking for
- Change the "Point at Night Light" into a light colour
- Get rid of the restricting toggle functions (especially the "off" function)
- Create an option where you can try the settings of a previous User
- Make sure the timer
is counting down
- Add some more guidelines

Meghans feedback:

- Think about creating a slider that doesn't exist yet and that can have a direct effect on the artwork
After taking everyones feedback into account I continued altering the designs and specified some functions
The next step in my design process was bringing together the animated mockups into a whole:

by help of creating an animated video of someone "going through the app"
I shifted my focus from wanting to educate my Usergroup to giving them the freedom of autonomous control and creativity next to entertaining them through interacting with the app, being able to create their own environment
> creative clubbers
creative outlet
be creative
gallery function where the User can try previous Users "Night Light" creations
the User can choose from these two options when a "Night Light" unlocks
overview of the "Night Light" app
FUNCTIONALITY INSPIRATION
futuristic installations made out of lights creating a new environment was my main inspiration for
"Night Light"
the goal = giving the user the possibility to alter and create their own surroundings, where they are in full control
as FINAL INTERFACE I created an animated app going through the app giving you an idea of what that would be like, adjusting lights and navigating through the app
